Introduction:

Hello friends and welcome back to the long awaited return of the next big blog. I’ve been away for a while because of personal matters. I really didn’t have the mindset to come up with good stuff to write or to even think about it the way I usually do. Before I even get started let me just give my big congrats to Suzie for a well done job on the new layout for the site, it looks awesome! I only wish Brock Lesnar could be more interested on the internet because if he did he would absolutely love our site, I just know it! As Mike Goldberg would say…”AND HERE WE GO!”

UFC 99 The Comeback:

I didn’t have a chance to watch but I have read the results and I must I say, I was pleased with some of the outcomes. Let me start right off the bat with the bout that interested me the most…Cheick Kongo vs Cain Velasquez. It is very hard for me to call this one since I didn’t see the fight itself but it did go all three arounds and it ended up being Cain Velasquez winning by unanimous decision. This means that he must have dominated Kongo two if not all three rounds. So this moves Velasquez one step closer to the heavyweight championship. But hold on a minute, we’re not done just yet because another heavyweight bout took place as the returning Mirko Cro Cop took on Mostapha Al Turk. I’m not gonna bother to talk about Al Turk because the guy lost so many times so lets talk about Cro Cop for a moment. He called Dana White and said he wants to get another opportunity at the heavyweight title and because Cro Cop is a veteran in the octagon, he was granted his wish. Now that he has got his first win since coming back, I think he will need another two or three wins to get back into title contention. I would love to see down the line Velazquez vs Cro Cop to see who can become the top contender for the title but only time will tell on this one. Now moving on the the middleweight division, two of the best went head to head, Rich Franklin vs Wanderlei Silva. I was watching UFC 99 Countdown on Spike TV and in that piece I saw that the Middleweight champion Anderson Silva volunteered to help Franklin train for Wanderlei Silva. There is a bit of bad blood between the two Silvas because when Anderson was coming up in the business, Wanderlei was already a mainstream star and it seems that Wanderlei tried to do everything to keep the young up and coming Anderson down. When Wanderlei decided to go down to 185, Anderson took it personally because he felt that Wanderlei was coming in to his company and to his weight division and that didn’t sit well with The Spider. Anyway to make a long story short, Anderson does not want Wanderlei to succeed in the UFC so he is going to do anything to keep that from happening, even helping a guy who he fought before in Franklin. After seeing the results, the help really came in handy for Franklin as he ended up beating Silva. Although he didn’t beat him via KO, he won by unanimous decision which is good but had he won by KO or TKO it would have made a bigger impact for the win. At the end of the day a win is a win no matter how you look at it and Rich Franklin is one step closer to getting a title shot at the Middleweight title. Not having watched the entire show, I cant really comment on the other fights but I just had to mention the three fights that really caught my attention. Now Suzi went to the see the event so hopefully she will fill us in on how the event was!

The Ultimate Fighter: USA vs UK:

Wow, this show has really been exciting and entertaining to watch. The last season was good but there was too much drama going on with Junie Browning but thank goodness this season they focused more on all of the fighters instead of just one. There is only one episode left until the season finale where one more fight will take place to determine who faces the guy who I feel will win the whole thing in Damarques Johnson. It will be James Wilks from the UK team taking on the guy who already lost once to Wilks in Frank Lester. Lester got his second chance after Jason Pierce refused to fight because of a infection on his leg. Dana White asked him if he wanted to continue and he basically said no. So Lester stepped up and now he gets another shot at Wilks. I am really pulling for Lester to win this time because it will probably be his defining moment up until that point where he lost his chance but came back and got it back. As Dana said, nobody in the history of The Ultimate Fighter has ever come back after a loss to win on a second chance and he did that against the Brits favorite (at first) in David Faulkner. So at this point of the show, two Brits are already in the finale and will face each other, Andre Winner vs Ross Pearson. Keep in mind these two are from the UK team so unfortunately we wont see UK vs USA in the lightweight division final. If will be if Frank Lester beats James Wilks in the semi-finals we will then see a UK vs USA showdown but if Lester is the winner he will then face fellow team USA mate in Demarques Johnson and thus setting the scene for a finale of UK vs UK and USA vs USA team mates. Can’t wait for this!!!

Other News:

I was reading some comments made by JBL and if you don’t know who he is, he’s a former WWE wrestler and I’ve read on a wrestling website that JBL is very interested in becoming an MMA promoter. Now he had some very interesting comments about how Brock Lesnar was used when he first came to the UFC. According to Layfield, he thought that Brock Lesnar should have had some easy fights first to establish him better as a top contender and then moved on to tougher fighters. I can understand where JBL is coming from, this would be the smart choice…if this was professional wrestling! You see, in pro-wrestling, when a new comer who is tall, powerful and marketable, what they do is they put this guy against scrubs or “jobbers” and have the new comer look as impressive as can be. What JBL has to understand is that MMA is not like pro-wrestling, MMA is REAL! Any guy can beat another guy at any given time. You put the best guy in there against a new comer and I guarantee you, if the new comer has the skills and the experience, he will totally show up that guy. So I wish JBL good luck in running an MMA promotion because if he plans on running it like WWE, he’s gonna be in trouble. MMA fans are very different from wrestling fans. I can say that I am in between because I enjoy both styles although I am starting to be more of an MMA fan than a wrestling fan simply because there is no excitement anymore in wrestling. KIMBO SLICE has come to the UFC! I like the dude, and I can’t wait to see what he can do in the octagon. How awesome it would be to see Kimbo Slice vs Brock Lesnar in the near future huh? Tonight I watched UFC Unleashed and it was a brand new Episode that featured the title fight between Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture. This was the first time that I watched this fight on TV. I did watch it online but when you watch it on TV you get a clearer view of everything and I must say, Brock Lesnar looked good but although he won the fight, he should have never had let Couture handle him while he was pressed against the cage. If you notice, there was couple of time where Brock would hold on to the cage and that’s a no-no in the UFC. I really have to believe that ever since that fight Brock has stepped up on his stand up game even more than before because a guy with the size and power of Lesnar should have had no problem with a guy the size and power of Randy Coulture. I don’t mean to sell Couture short but if you look at it rationally, it’s like putting a wolf to fight off a dog. The wolf is more vicious and more powerful than the dog every single time. Frank Mir recently had some things to say about the rematch against Brock and he feels very confident that he can stand up with Brock as well as ground him again and try to once again beat him by submission. Brock Lesnar is like a sponge though, he quickly absorbs everything that he learns and applies that to his craft. If you have watched every single fight that Brock Lesnar has had since coming to the UFC you will notice a pattern of increased skills by him. In the Mir fight, he really got caught with his inexperience. In the Herring fight, he bounced back but won the fight by points, as he didn’t actually win by TKO or knock out. Then on the Couture fight he finished the fight via TKO on the second round which says a lot there. Now can you imagine what he will do on his fourth fight against a guy that he knows pretty well already? I will have more on this on the next blog as I will give my predictions and more indepth analysis on this fight and the main card for UFC 100 so stay tuned!

Closing:

“IT IS ALL OVER!” For now! By the way, if you haven’t already bought UFC 2009 Undisputed, please do so because it is the best fighting game I have ever played…and I just played the demo! Now I can only imagine how the actual game is like. I myself don’t own a Play Station 3 but if you own one I advise you to go buy this game because it’s the best! Alright you guys, hope you have enjoyed the blog and until next time! We’ll see you inside the octagon! Lol I love Mike Goldberg now! Best announcer ever!
