Introduction:

Hey everybody welcome back once again to the UFC 100 NBG SPECIAL! This blog is going to be ALL about UFC 100 but before I get there, I want to comment on some things that have happened over the last few weeks. Number one, I am extremely happy to know that Steve Mazzagatti will not be refing the Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir fight. Instead it will be Herb Dean and Dean seems to be a stand up guy and unbiased as well. The thing about Mazzagatti is that he is close friends with Mir and naturally he favored Mir because of that very fact. The Ultimate Finale of the Ultimate Fighter had one of the best fights on free TV ever when Clay Guida took on Diego Sanchez. These two guys gave everything they got and then some! The end of that fight was a bloody mess with Diego ending up winning the fight via split decision. If you haven’t seen this fight, you tube it or do whatever you gotto do because it is truly one of the best matches ever! Bobby Lashley is still on a mission to enter the UFC and he fought against Bob Sapp a couple of weeks ago and beat Sapp via submission in the very first round. I gotto say, Lashly is doing his thing but if he wants UFC to take him seriously, he needs to stop doing pro-wrestling appearances like the one he did in TNA. Everybody was under the impression that he signed with the company when he was just there to get in the spotlight. Look at Brock, it took a lot for people to take him serious as an MMA fighter but now I think more than ever he has cemented himself as such. In two months it will be UFC 102 and guess what the main event is scheduled to be? Randy Couture versus Antonio Minotauro Nogueira! Two former champions going at it and this pretty much answers my question as to who will become the number one contender after an undisputed heavyweight champion is crowned. Can’t wait for that one folks! Alright enough chit-chat let’s get down to businesss…AND HERE WE GO!!!

Hitting a Milestone!:

I have not been a long time UFC fan, I started to follow it back in 2006 when I watched season 3 of the ultimate fighter and that show got me hooked on the UFC in general. When season 7 of TUF came about where Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson were going to be Coaches I started tuning in again. This was basically due to pro-wrestling shows getting in the way. I was more into the soap-opera of wrestling than actual real life drama that only the UFC can provide! I became a casual fan but then I heard that Brock Lesnar was going to sign with them in late 2007 I started paying more attention. In the early years of the UFC, things were not the way it is now, back then there were no weight classes and pretty much no rules. Guys would come in from different backgrounds of fighting styles and fight in a cage and the end would be when one guy passed out or if parts of his body were broken. Royce Gracie was the guy who really revolutionized the MMA business with his unique style which at the time was not known (which is now well known world wide as Brazilian Jujitsu). So many events, so many fights, so many memorable moments cannot be measured in just one big event…except for now! UFC 100! UFC is hitting it’s milestone and they have perhaps the best card they could possibly produce. Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir is already worth the price of admission! But then you add the best welterweight of all time George St-Pierre and the best up and comer in that weight classes in Thiago Alves, you just know that something great is going to happen! What about UK’s golden boy Michael Bisping, former TUF winner taking on a UFC legend in Dan Henderson. I’ll tell you, the commercial hype for this event alone gave me goose pumps, I can only imagine how the show itself will be. The dude that did the voice over for that commercial called Brock “the most powerful man in MMA” and I think he hit the nail right on the head there. Lesnar has arguably the best strike force out of any fighter in MMA. Through out the years of the UFC, we have seen that out guy that took the UFC to new heights such as Royce Graice, Randy Couture and now…Brock Lesnar! Dana White said that he opens that in the next 10 years that MMA is as big as soccer is right now which is played world wide. He hopes to bring the UFC not only to every place around the United States but also to every country. The way things are going I see it getting that way!

Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir – The Ultimate Re-match!

That’s right, I’m calling it like I see it! To me this is the biggest re-match in recent history! This is bigger than Couture-Liddell in my eyes! Not only have these two men had history but also they are both champions! Two titles on the line in one match! Only one man will walk out as the undisputed UFC Heavyweight champion of the world! I’ll start by going back to their first encounter. February 02, 2008, yeah it’s been that long! Brock had just signed with the UFC and Dana White was very skeptical about Brock wanting to be a part of the UFC. To try and call Brock on his bluff, he picked a UFC veteran to face the new comer in Frank Mir. It was said at the time that Brock Lesnar had absolutely no business in the UFC because he came from the WWE. Most of these remarks came from Mir himself. When the fight took place Brock Lesnar came swinging like no tomorrow and within the first 10 seconds of the fight he takes Mir down to the mat and starting laying the hammer fists. Although Lesnar hit Mir in the back of the head two times, Mazzagatti asked for the time out and instead of giving a warning, he went ahead and took a point away from Brock. Joe Roggan said “No warning” and Mike Goldberg responded with “Interesting”. You know that there was something wrong there and this is exactly what I was talking about before, I am glad that Mazzagatti is not referring this fight. Moving on…They stand up and Lesnar nails a punch sending Mir down again on his back. He once again start nailing the hammer fists and this time nails a whole bunch of them without hitting the back of the head. He even gets some elbow shots in but I believe Lesnar got a bit over confident, probably thinking that he already had that won and that is when Mir used his Brazilian Jujitsu and capitalized with an ankle lock. Lesnar had no choice but to tap. Looking back at that fight I saw many things that will eventually be a turn around for Brock. Number one, he will learn not to get over confident again thinking that the fight is over before it actually is. Number two, he will take his time and not allow Mir or anybody else for that matter to grab any part of his body for a submission hold. Number three he will learn to keep the fight standing up.

Fight Analysis

I have to believe that this fight will not start out as the first one did. Lesnar was really rushing in the early minutes and I think that was because it was his very first fight in the UFC and he wanted to impress. Now that has had two fights under his belt and has the Heavyweight title, he will be more relaxed and take his time. The main thing that Lesnar has to watch out for is for the fight not to go to the ground. As we all know Frank Mir has excellent Brazilian jujitsu and has won a lot of his fights via submission including the one against Lesnar. Very likely Lesnar is going to go back to his roots of wrestling and probably take Mir down although I hope he won’t! Frank Mir has had that many fights under his belt and he’s been around for a long time. His professional record states 12 wins and 3 losses with 0 draws. All of his loses were due to TKOs which says a lot. Frank Mir is not a very good striker and his stand up game is not all that great which is why he loves when the fight goes to the ground. I really hope Lesnar did his homework on this one. This will be very hard to call considering I cannot predict the future I will say what I want to happen. What I want to happen is for Brock to remain calm, cool and collected and to pick his spots and not try to take Mir down right away. He should work wearing Mir down to a point where he is tired and that is when he should strike. Remember this, Brock Lesnar has great stamina and endurance so he can go all 5 rounds if need be. Two possible outcomes can come out of this. Number one Brock Lesnar wins by TKO in the third round. The second outcome is they go all five rounds and Brock wins by split decision. I may not see how the fight is going to play out but if there’s one thing I see is that Brock Lesnar is going to win at any cost!

Henderson vs Bising – Put up or Shut up!:

Did these two guys make an impression in the Ultimate fighter or not? First I just want to congratulate Team UK for the clean sweep over Team USA! It was perhaps the best Ultimate Fighter show ever because they focused on all of the fighters this time and not on one fighter and also there was no drama so it was very enjoyable to watch. Henderson seems like the cool, calm and collected no nonsense kind of guy. His attitude is, “I’ll do my talking in the octagon”. While Michael Bisping is more of a cocky in your face kind of guy. In the last season of the Ultimate Fighter Henderson coached the USA guys while Bisping coached the UK guys. I felt that overall Henderson did a much better job in coaching simply because of his experience. However the UK guys were hungrier and wanted it more thus explaining why Team UK won the whole thing. Now it is time for the coaches to go to collide and this is the time to put up or shut up! Meaning Bisping has the chance to prove to everyone that he is the real deal and if he can defeat a legend he will legitimize his stand once and for all in the UFC.

Fight Analysis

I think that Bisping will come out early trying to end the fight as quickly as possible. While Henderson will try to take his time standing. Henderson is a 12 year pro and has tons of experience over Bisping who by the way was the winner of season 3 of the ultimate fighter. Henderson has the ability to knock his opponents out with either hand but Bisping has the ability to defend himself from such situation. In the entire career of Bisping he lost only one time against Rashad Evans and that was via split decision so The Count has never been knocked out or made to submit. Henderson has a great chin and I think his experience will prevail and he will win this fight by split decision.

Thiago Alves vs GSP – Who’s Truly the Best Welter Weight? :

Right off the bat I will side with my fellow countryman, Alves but also not for nothing, Alves has been nothing short of amazing in the welterweight division! First of all, look at the guy, he’s a welterweight but he looks like a light-heavyweight. He’s got the strength, the technique and the agility to hit you with anything and everything! But the same can be said for GSP. He’s ranked number one welter weight in the world right now and for a good reason! He’s beaten almost everybody already but now he’s got a huge challenge ahead of him in the form of Thiago Alves. Thiago Alves has beaten some of the best including the shocking TKO against Matt Hughes and dominating Josh Koscheck last year. Alves is now ranked as the top contender and will be looking to win the UFC Welterweight title against the very well rounded GSP. This guy has beaten some of the best in this sport and there was even talk of him going up a weight class and possibly challenging Anderson Silva! This could be one of the best fights of all time but before he can actually do this he will have to get through Thiago Alves.

Fight Analysis:

This fight is actually going to be a very physical and fast paced fight. This is going to be very hard because both GSP and Thaigo Alves are Jujitsu specialist so its very hard to call whether they will want the fight to go on the ground or not. Either way I see Thiago Alves walking out the winner. I’m sorry I can’t comment anymore on this fight but I just have no clue as to what will happen here. This is a fight that is actually unpredictable; I couldn’t even come up with something if I wanted to. I will shoot though on what could happen. I feel that Alves is going to make GSP tap out!

Closing:

I just want to close this by saying that UFC 100 is expected to draw over a million buyrates making this event the highest ever! How can it not be with featuring the ultimate re-match? This event will be one for the ages! I hope everybody tunes it to see this memorable moment and for the people who will actually be there all I gotto say is, YOU LUCK S.O.Bs!
