Introduction:
Hello everybody and welcome once again to the second edition of the Next Big
Blog. I've received some reviews last time from different readers, most in
which were friends of mine but if you would like to contact me to give feedback
or ask questions or even give your input on the Lesnar vs Couture fight you can
do so at
hollywoodjonn@hotmail.com. Now then, before I get to this week's topic,
there is something that I want to discuss with all of you. So I was reading some
news a few weeks ago on a wrestling website and this involves a UFC fighter by
the name of Jon Koppenhaver, from a very early stage he adopted the nickname
"War Machine". Meanwhile in a total different environment, a man by the name of
Rhino, who is a professional wrestler is given the nickname "War Machine" by
the company he works for, known as TNA (Total Non-Stop Action) The second
biggest wrestling promotion in the United States. So being that the name War
Machine was not trademarked, TNA went ahead and trademarked the name so now
there is a dispute between Koppenhaver and TNA about the name. Being that
Koppenhaver was not smart enough to trademark the name he ended up losing it
legally. In a myspace blog he wrote that he wasn't gonna let some fake
wrestler take his name just like that. Last week I read that he had legally
changed his name to War Machine. When someone changes their name to something
else, like Koppenhaver did, the name becomes property of the person who changed
it. In my view this is an act of a childish and spoiled brat. Okay, now your
name is War Machine, wow lol. I wonder how it's gonna be from now on, Mr.
Machine how are you sir? Oh please call me War. Lol get it? Alright enough of
this let's get to what it really matters!
Jealousy In The Air:
I knew as soon as I heard that Brock Lesnar would be fighting for the UFC
heavyweight championship that there would be jealousy in the ranks. Recently a
heavyweight fighter let his feeling known about the fight between Lesnar and
Couture and this is what he said, "Ultimate (UFC) thinks about business, and
Lesnar is more famous in United States. I don't know how they'll do it,
because my new contract guarantees a title shot with a victory against Cigano.
They should have put Cigano, who is a newcomer in the event, to face Lesnar, who
only has one fight in UFC. But that's OK, I'll win quickly my next fight and
my time will come. Nogueira will certainly defeat Frank Mir and Couture will
beat Lesnar. The "big" Lesnar won't make it, Couture will use a good
strategy to get him tired and will win on the last round. I can't see him
winning, Couture has a lot more experience and Lesnar is like a white-belt
there."(Side note: Thanks to BLO for this info as they work around the clock to
bringing the very latest Brock Lesnar news!) That quote came from heavyweight
fighter Fabricio Werdum and let me tell you this, if I didn't know who this
guy was and how old he was I would say that Fabricio sounded like a little whiny
baby who had just lost his little pacifier and is crying for it. I mean come on!
Hey Werdum, Brock Lesnar is a house hold name! Notice that he doesn't even
need a freaking nickname to make him sound tougher! As I said on my last blog,
Brock Lesnar only had three fights under his belt, two of them were in the UFC,
one loss and one win. Okay I am willing to admit that it might not be fair to
others: HOWEVER this is not charity, let' say Unicef was getting into the
MMA business, then that's the place that Werdum should go!
This is a
business, Dana White is a businessman, and he wants to put a fight that will
draw big! He wants to put a show that people will go and actually get excited
about! He doesn't want some two bit fighter in there just because you know
what I mean? Brock Lesnar's debut against Frank Mir at UFC 81 had the biggest
draw of the year in ppv buyrates or so I was told. If I'm wrong my bad! But
one thing is for sure, a lot of people tuned in to see Lesnar's debut,
including yours truly. I usually don't buy ppv events as they are way too
expensive, especially UFC which goes by 45 bucks tops. I rather wait till it
gets on DVD and buy it for $25 dollars. But this time, I will order UFC 91
because I just want to be part of history! Getting back to the subject: I understand where Werdum is coming from, I mean if I was a mediocre fighter who
was working up the rankings only to see a big name guy just slide in and get a
title shot, I would be mad too, except I wouldn't be crying about it and
letting people know that. I would go out and make a statement and let Dana White
and everybody else know that I should be the top guy.
A Twist Of Irony:
From the moment I heard about this fight, something came to my head almost
immediately. As you know there will also be another heavyweight title fight in
the near future, Frank Mir vs Antonio Nogueira! Now think about this, if Frank
Mir is able to defeat Nogueira this means that Mir is the champion. Now this
fight won't happen before UFC 91 so let's say Brock Lesnar defeats Randy
Couture, Lesnar is champion and Mir then defeats Nogueira: need I say more???
Dana White wants one champion for the heavyweight division, so the two champions
will have to battle it out to become the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion and
baby it doesn't get any bigger than Lesnar/Mir II! If Brock Lesnar and Frank
Mir get inside the octagon again with this much at stake, my friends we are
looking at the most entertaining and emotional bout since Forrest Griffin vs
Stephen Bonner.(Side note: Griffin vs Bonner is the fight that redefined the UFC
and brought it to the national spotlight, because of this fight, UFC is this
popular today!) I just get goose pumps thinking about the possible Lesnar vs Mir
rematch, I mean you can't write this stuff, the great thing about UFC it's that the storylines write themselves! We
can't assume that this is going to
happen, this is though a possibility, just like it would be a possibility to see
Nogueira vs Lesnar or Nogueira vs Couture or Mir vs Couture. But for me, I want
Lesnar and Mir to win their respective matches and if I know Lesnar, I know that
he wants the same thing. He wants Mir to beat Nogueira because would love
nothing more than to avenge his loss and in the process becoming the undisputed
UFC heavyweight champion!
Closing:
Thank you all once again for taking time out of your busy lives to read the next
big blog! I know that I promised to give a preview on the fight and all that but
I figured it's too early for that. We still have two months until this big time
fight and when the time comes I shall give my expert analysis on the fight as
well as the fighters. Until next time!
