Introduction:

Hello everybody and welcome once again to the third edition of the Next Big Blog! I can't even believe that I am already on my third blog but I gotto tell you all, I am having a great time writing them. It's one of those things that when you are interesting in doing, it will flow like water. But before I get to this week's topic, I want to talk a little bit about the new season of The Ultimate Figther. As I stated on my first blog, I got really hooked on UFC when I watched season 3 of TUF where two of my favorite fighters were coaches, Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock. This season we have none other than my fellow countryman the great Antonio "Minotauro" Nogueira and Frank Mir as coaches. So far we are on the second episode of the season and these first two episodes featured qualifying fights in order to get into the house. For those of you who don't know what that is, Dana White wants to separate the men from the boys. He did that on the last season and is doing it now and I think it's a great way to clean out all the wussies and the cry babies. They have done that and it seems like the 16 guys are set but when I watched what was to come on the season they showed that a lot of guys got hurt while in the qualifiers and it seems like a lot of guys that lost will get their second chance. Let's see how this is going to play out. Another thing I liked was that my favorite Middleweight Anderson "The Spider" Silva is going to be on the show as a guest coach I guess and what that guy has in talent, he has in charisma and that's something you don't learn, you either have it or you don't! Brock Lesnar damn sure got plenty of that which is why he is in the position he is in right now! Okay let's get to this week's topic:

Frank Mir:

Oh Frankie, Frankie, I knew you couldn't keep your mouth shut about Lesnar could ya? A few days ago, I read an interview conducted with Frank Mir where he gave his opinion on the Lesnar/Couture fight and what he thinks of each man. Of course it came to no surprise from me that Mir would naturally bash on Lesnar but at the same time sing his praises in order for him not to look like a total ass. But you know why, from my point of view, he didn't succeed. Just like Fabricio Werdum, Frank Mir is a little jealous that Lesnar is getting this chance so early in his UFC career, Mir went as far as saying that "it's too early for him" and that the only reason this fight is happening is because of "name recognition". Like I said on my last blog, Dana White is a business man and he wants a fight that will draw big. Randy Couture is a legend in the UFC, his name is synonymous with MMA. There isn't one person today that follows either wrestling or MMA that doesn't know who Randy Couture is. Also there isn't one pro wrestling fan out there who doesn't know who Brock Lesnar is. So when you put these two combustible elements together you can only expect one thing: fireworks! The reason Mir is talking smack is because he is concerned that Brock Lesnar might come out victorious in this fight and he knows that if he wins he will have to deal with Lesnar again. Only this time, it will be a different, more experienced and a champion in Brock Lesnar. Do I think Mir is afraid of Lesnar? No, absolutely not! Do I think Mir is afraid to LOSE to Brock Lesnar? OHH HELL YEAH! Just imagine, a rookie, with only two years experience, only having less than five fights under his belt, defending two of the top heavyweights in the UFC today for the heavyweight title? Mir will never live it down! Of course Lesnar's ego will be three times higher than the Empire State Building but could you really blame the guy? After proving the entire world that he was a force to be reckon with? Of course these things have not happened yet but in case it doesn't, it will definitely not be the end of Brock Lesnar because he will have plenty of opportunities.

So Frank Mir is putting his money on Randy Couture, I just hoping it's monopoly money because in all my years of following Brock Lesnar's career, I have never seen the man more focus and more determined to do something in his life. In pro wrestling it was all scripted, he knew in advance if he was going to win or lose but he still went out there and made the match believable, he made us believe that he was dominating, he made us believe that he was being destroyed, he made us believe that he was in pain or if he was delivering the pain. So now it's only fair for us to believe in him and believe that he can overcome the odds and REALLY win in this reality world we call mixed martial arts. In pro wrestling we have two type of fans, the die hard "will believe in anything" fans and the marks. The marks are those type of fans who will go out of their way to predict a match based on the storyline or based the political status of that wrestler. Let me give a quick example, at Wrestlemania XX Brock Lesnar faced Bill Goldberg in a match. Now the die hard fans would predict for their favorite wrestler. However the marks would predict the win based on the status of the wrestler. Like Goldberg's contract would expired right after Wrestlemania and Brock Lesnar chose to leave the company to pursue another endeavors. So the marks new that Lesnar was leaving the company in bad terms so naturally he would be set to lose the match because of that. Anyway: the point that I'm trying to make is that in MMA there is no such thing because this is REAL! IT'S DAMN REAL! (lol just had to throw in a little Kurt Angle line there). So being that MMA is real and there is no script or politics, we really have to base the outcome of fights on facts. Fact; Randy Couture is 14 years older than Lesnar, that is an obvious advantage for Lesnar. Fact; Randy Couture has over 20 years experience in MMA over Lesnar, that's an advantage for Couture. Fact; Brock Lesnar is bigger and stronger than Couture. Lesnar outweights Couture by about 45lbs so you know Lesnar has the advantage in that area. Fact; Couture is a world class wrestler and has knowledge in other areas of fighting. Lesnar can only rely on his wrestling abilities and his ground and pound. I hate to say this but there was only one thing that I agreed with Mir on, if Brock Lesnar had a few months of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu he could very well end fights early. Because of his strength, if he got a guy on a rear naked choke or an arm bar or leg lock he could probably brake or dislocate somebody. In my personal opinion, a fight is not a fight if guys are on the floor throughout the majority of the rounds, I love to see stand up fights because that's way more exciting. Brock Lesnar brings plenty of that to the table.

Closing:

Unfortunately I didn't have much to talk about this week. I wasn't even going to write anything but when I read this interview with Frank Mir trash talking Lesnar, I just had to say something. I am sure if Brock Lesnar got around to reading about this he would just laugh his ass off and go back to the gym. Remember if you like to contact me you can e-mail me at hollywoodjonn@hotmail.com. Thank you all once again for taking time out of your busy lives to read the next big blog! Until next time!
