Introduction:

Hello there friends and welcome to another edition of the Next Big Blog. I know I haven't written anything in a while but its because I had a very tragic situation happening with me, a very good friend of mine died in a car crash a month ago and I am still trying to deal with this whole situation, although I am a little better now than I was a month ago. Suzi has been great and understanding and telling me to take all the time I want and I thank her for the support. I thought it was better to get back into the blogging business because I was already getting rusty and if I didn't get back now, by the time UFC 91 came around I don't think I would be up for writing and I would miss out on a great event to write about. Before I get to the hot topics about our favorite UFC fighter Brock Lesnar, I want to comment a little on UFC 90 – Silva vs Cote, more specifically the fight between the two. I finally got a chance to watch the entire fight on YouTube and I must say it really disappointed me. Not in a sense that the fight was terrible because it was the contrary of that, it was awesome. Cote did a very good job in not letting the fight go to the ground. When it was it was only for a brief moment and he was able to bring it back up. Silva is the best pound for pound fighter in the world and he has taken down some of the top contenders. He even went up to the light-heavyweight division and defeated James Irvin with ease. But when I saw Patrick Cote fighting Silva, I really believed that Silva had finally met his match. It is unfortunate for Cote that he blew out his knee when Silva didn't even touch him that time but I know that when Cote is healthy again, they will meet for a second time. Silva is one of my all time favorites, but I really felt like he was struggling to get the advantage and even though I want Silva to keep holding the title, I think it would be good for this business for a shocking upset. I will talk more about shocking upsets in a little bit:

WHAT A SCARE!:

When I heard that Brock got hurt I was bugging out because it would be a shame for him to get injured only a little over a month away from the biggest fight of his life. But thank God it was just a false alarm. You know, I can honestly say that I do not remember Brock Lesnar ever getting hurt when he was with the WWE. I tried to remember but I honestly can't. I mean he did get injured but it wasn't an injury that kept him out for months and months. Remember the shooting star press he did at Wrestlemania 19? He landed on his face! Now a normal man would have broken his nose and even worse, his neck! Fortunately, Brock only suffered a concussion. Brock Lesnar is built like a tank, if I never saw him bleeding before I would think Lesnar was not human. For those of you who never saw Lesnar back in his pro wrestling days, he was twice as big as he is now. Unfortunately in pro wrestling, the bigger you are the better your chances are to make it big. To debate whether Lesnar ever took steroids, it' not up to me to say, I don't know, but if he ever took it, it was probably during his amateur wrestling days. But in pro wrestling, especially in WWE, it is a very demanding schedule, it is basically all year around and out of the entire year, they only get about two to three days rest every month which is not much at all. Lesnar had a very short WWE career but obviously made the most of it. I do have to wonder what if he had stayed with the company, if he would have eventually inured himself. The good news is for the two years he was there he never once had any serious injuries. But in the UFC it's a very different scenario because not only it is real but the men are actually looking to hurt you in order to further their winning streak and/or successfully defend their titles. Lesnar was very fortunate in his fight against Mir because as soon as Mir locked in on the leg I saw it in his face that he was ready to break Lesnar's leg. I really believe that Mir wanted to take out Lesnar before he exploded on the scene like he is doing now. I'll go on record to say that I do not like Frank Mir because he doesn't feel that a guy like Brock Lesnar belongs in the MMA business. This is why I really want Brock Lesnar to beat Couture so he can win the belt and I am also hoping that Mir beats Nogueira so we can have the one encounter that we have waited for since February. There is nothing that would make me happier when it comes to UFC fights than to see Brock Lesnar beat up Frank Mir and become the undisputed UFC Heavyweight champion of the world. If this happens, I will become a die-hard UFC fan.

No Mazzagatti equals fair fight!:

You all know that Steve Mazzagatti was the referee for the fight between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir right? During the first few seconds of that fight, Brock was dominating Mir and took him down and was punching the daylights out of Mir. Then all of the sudden, Mazzagatti goes and stops that from happening saying Brock hit Frank in the back of the head and even took a point away from him. So okay, I understand stopping the momentum because when a fighter performs an illegal move, the referee has the right to take away the dominance of that fighter, but why the hell would you take away a point without even giving the guy a warning? So this is exactly why I am very happy that Brock Lesnar took some initiative and had Mazzagatti removed as the referee of the Couture vs Lesnar fight. In a recent interview conducted with Mazzagatti, he claims to having no problem whatsoever with this because he will enjoy watching the fight just like everybody else. He actually made me laugh as he explained to the interviewer that a punch to the back of the head is in the area where a Mohawk line would be located. I could be crazy but I have seen fights in the past where guys would hit that very area and the referee would not stop the fight or take a point away from a fighter. I think Steve is one of those guys who buddy up with UFC veterans like Mir and then kisses his ass and asks for seconds. I ask you, if Lesnar didn't take Mir down 5 seconds after the bout started, would Steve Mazzagatti have taken away Lesnar's momentum and deducted a point? I think not!

Another thing I wanted to add, I know that fighters get money for every fight they are involved in, depending on the type of fight and the hype it gets, the amount is then decided. If it's a big time fight, then big money will be involved, if it's not than not so much money. Also referees probably get paid for the fights they ref and if I'm wrong about that I apologize but that's what I believe. So in Mazzagatti's case, he says he doesn't have a problem but if he gets paid for refereeing a fight, then he must be even more pissed off, also add in the fact that he won’t be a part of history and be a part of the most anticipated fight of the year. Now who would be more capable or better to ref this fight? I think the same guy who refereed Lesnar's last fight would be a good choice because he actually helped Lesnar when he poked Heath Herring in the eye before the fight started (lol) just a little humor there. But he actually did a good job and I would like to see him there. Also Herb Dean is alright, I got no problems with him. We'll just have to wait and see who Dana White announces as the referee.

The time is almost here:

November 15th is the date! In two weeks time we could see history being made or we could see a crushing defeat. Either way, this is perhaps the most anticipated fight of the entire year. In the beginning of the blog I talked about shocking upsets and I will elaborate more on the subject. No matter how good Brock Lesnar is now, no matter how much he dominated his last fight and no matter how much we love Brock Lesnar, we have to admit that if Brock Lesnar is able to beat Randy Couture, this is going to go down in the UFC history books as one of the biggest upsets of all time! This is because of Randy Couture's history and experience in MMA. However, Brock Lesnar will have not only the size and strength advantage but also the age advantage. Randy being 45 and Lesnar 31 it's a very huge age gap between the two and you have to wonder how will Randy's body respond to the aggressive nature of Brock. Now for Brock Lesnar to be completely dominant in the fight he will need to remain in complete control. He can not give Couture an inch of advantage. I know what you're probably saying, that goes without saying right? The reason I say this because all the three fights I saw from Lesnar, he was the one who came charging in and throwing the first punch. The problem with that is that Lesnar gets over excited about things and it could come back to haunt him. Also what he needs to watch out is over confidence. He needs to make sure to stay on top of the fight the entire time and not show boat like he did in the fight against Heath Herring. I know he just wanted to prove a point but you can't do that against a guy like Couture because he will take advantage of any mistake that Brock makes.

Closing:

Okay folks I will stop here because I already gave a little bit of what I wanted to give in my analysis, but I wanted to come back with something solid so I decided to add something that I will be talking next time. Thank you all once again for taking time out of your busy lives to read the next big blog! Until next time!
