Introduction:
Hey what’s up ya’ll, I know I haven’t been around with the blogs and I’m really
sorry. I feel the responsibility of taking this head on since I did volunteer to
do it. But sometimes you just have one of those times where you just don’t want
to do anything. I’ve been under a lot of stress lately over personal matters and
only now it’s starting to ease up. But anyway before I begin, I want to wish
everybody Happy Holidays and hope that everyone is enjoying this great time of
the year. What a year for the UFC! I have never watched so many UFC fights and
events as I have this year! Not live but on TV. I would love to go to an event
sometime and hopefully they will be on my neck of the woods. Before I get to
this week’s topic let me go back to last Saturday night as the TUF finally took
place. Without further ado, I want to congratulate Ryan Bader and Efrain
Escudero for becoming the new Ultimate Fighters of their respective weight
classes. I am a huge fan of the show and I am a Ryan Bader fan because he was
one of the coolest, calmest guy in the house. You never saw him start anything
with anybody, but if somebody started something he would definitely join in on
the fun. Bader went up against the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Vinny
Magalhães. You know it is so funny hearing the Americans pronounce his last name,
because I heard like 3 or 4 different variations of the names. Do you see that
little thing above the letter a? That means that the name makes a certain sound
and that’s how it works in the Portuguese language but I guess nothing can be
perfect in this world lol. I wasn’t much of a fan of Vinny because he was too
cocky, he thought just because he was a world champion black belt in Jiu-Jitsu
that he was going to win the whole thing with ease. Well Ryan Bader proved Vinny
wrong because all it took was one shot to end the whole thing. Now Efrain
Escudero and Philipe Nover were two stand up guys and whoever of the two won I
was going to be happy with it. But in the end we gotto look at the big picture,
Team Nogueira won the whole thing! It was a clear sweep! I hope to one day get
to meet big Nog because he’s one of my favorite fighters! So right now I want to
dive right into the main topic…UFC 92!
UFC 92 – The Ultimate 2008:
From top to bottom the cards for this event looks amazing! This is the last UFC
ppv of the year so it has to be big. Starting right off the bat, we have Forrest
Griffin defending the Light-Heavyweight title against the undefeated Rashad
Evans! Wow these two dudes are Ultimate Fighter winners and Griffin was actually
a coach on the last season of TUF. It’s amazing how much the show can do for
these guys but of course they do some of the work as well. This fight is going
to be great and one way or the other the outcome will be history in the making.
Another great fight to look out for will be my fellow Brazilian Wanderlei Silva
facing Quinton Rampage Jackson! Now Rampage is a mean dude but Silva is looking
for another win after defeating Keith Jardine at UFC 84. Another fight that will
sure be exciting will be CB Dollaway taking on Mike Massenzio. Now I am not a
fan of Massenzio but I am a fan of Dollaway. He impressed me a whole lot in the
last season of TUF. But the main event is what I have my eyes and ears on
because this match will determine who will be Brock Lesnar’s next opponent. I am
talking of course about Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira defending the interim UFC
Heavyweight title against Frank Mir. Now this fight will be the best fight of
the night and also the most difficult fight to cheer for. I say this because I
have been going back and forth trying to pick a side as to who I want to win. On
one hand, we have Nogueira, my fellow countryman, a man who is nothing short of
amazing in and out of the octagon. If you have been watching TUF this season you
should know that Nogueira has not been just a coach to the young fighters but
also their friend and almost a father figure. He’s an awesome person and it is
very hard not to cheer him on. On the other hand we have the asshole. I’m sorry,
but I cannot be bias when it comes to talking about Frank Mir. Mir is an asshole
in so many different levels. First of all, he talks a lot of crap and I will get
to that in a little bit. Second, in this season of TUF he only cared about one
thing, himself! He never really took the time to warm up to the fighters on his
team. There were some guys on Mir’s team that wanted to be on Nogueira’s team
for crying out loud. That’s how bad it was. BUT…if Mir comes out victorious, we
will all get to see probably the most anticipated re-match in the history of the
UFC. Lesnar vs Mir II. I mean this would be better than any World Series or
Superbowl in my view (lol easy to say since I don’t really like baseball or
football). This fight would create a lot of talk in the MMA world and the
biggest deal would be if or when Brock Lesnar or Frank Mir would come out the
winner. So to sum it up, even though it would hurt me to see big Nog losing, I
just want to see Frank Mir win because then and only then we will find out if
Mir talks out of his ass or if he’s for real.
I have no precise predictions for this fight because in my mind I see Nogueira
winning, just like his team completely dominated Mir’s team in the Ultimate
Fighter show and the finale! But here’s the thing, I want this fight to go the
full 5 rounds and end in a decision and it will probably end it that way because
Nogueira will not be knocked out and will not tap out, that’s how tough he is!
Mir will probably try his hardest to put Nogueira in a submission which is
basically his entire game there. Now if Nogueira wins, I will have absolutely no
problem with that, I will gladly accept it and watch him go up against Brock.
But the real problem will be Frank Mir who will probably still be talking crap
about Lesnar and still believing that he can beat Brock and that Brock will
never beat him.
Frank Mir talks crap about Lesnar:
It is so funny how Frank Mir will talk all that smack behind Lesnar’s back but
when he is face to face with him, he will stay quiet, almost like a statue and
not even blink much. If one time wasn’t enough Frank Mir again talks crap about
Brock Lesnar. He seems upset that Brock got a title shot so early in his career
saying that there are guy who has a lot of talent but is not very marketable and
won’t sell as many tickets. I said this before and I will say it again and as
many times as it takes…THIS IS A F***ING BUSINESS! The UFC wants to make money,
not lose money! If Unicef was in the MMA business than Franky boy, you should go
there along with your cry baby friends! I have zero respect for Frank Mir and
wished he would just shut the hell up and fight! When was his last fight,
February right? He fought a very green Brock Lesnar! Since than Brock has had
two fights under his belt, two fights that he won and one fight where he became
the UFC Heavyweight champion! Now Frank Mir still thinks he’s in February when
Brock only had one fight under his belt and not a lot of training. So he’s going
around telling reporters that he would have no problem beating Lesnar again. As
a matter of fact he actually said “Brock will never beat me”. You see these
words were encouragement enough to cheer for him to go over Nogueira because I
will love nothing more than to see him fail against Brock.
Others Talking Too:
Frank Mir wasn’t the only one that talked about Brock Lesnar, former WWE
superstar turned MMA fighter Bobby Lashley had some comments to make about our
champ. Saying that a fight between him and Brock is inevitable since they are
both wrestlers. He also says that he is probably the only one in MMA that can
match power with Lesnar. You know what I say to that? WHATEVER! Lashley is in
the minor leagues right now trying to work his way up, trying to get noticed, so
of course he’s going to target the most popular fighter in the UFC. Lashley
wants to be in the UFC and he’s not shy about saying it. Lashley to me is
nothing more than a Brock Lesnar wanna-be. For those of you who watched him in
the WWE, you could tell the similarities, more noticeably, the ring entrance.
When Brock was in the WWE he would leap onto the apron and grab the top rope
with both hands and yank it back as an explosion would set off from the four
corners of the ring. Lashely would do the same thing later on. I kind of always
had a problem but tried to live with it (lol). Hopefully Lashley can make his
way up and get offered a contract in the UFC and we can see this fight.
Tim Sylvia was also talking about Brock, saying he was dominated by Couture in
the first round and “controlling him” in the second. Says he felt like since
Brock Lesnar was weighting 285 pounds that he had the obvious advantage over
Couture. Apparently he’s not the only one who felt like Brock “cheated” in the
fight against Couture. Justin McCully is also claiming the same thing saying the
fight was not fair. McColly said that Randy Couture was weight around 225 pounds
while Brock was rumored to be weighting at 291 pounds. Okay, on paper that looks
unfair but here’s the reality of the situation, Brock Lesnar has a gift, whether
it’s his power, his speed, his agility or his talent to cut weight before the
fight, you can’t blame the guy for taking an advantage that is clearly NOT
illegal! The rules state that in the weight in you have to be under the weight
limit of the respective division, after you have stepped off of that scale you
can do whatever you want, you can cut more weight or you can put some more
weight. Brock Lesnar is just smart, he is working the rules towards him and
there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Now Randy weighting in at 225 is
his problem because he knows he it works and he could have added 5 or even 10
pounds, but the way things look right now, I would suggest to the Natural one to
go back to the light-heavyweight weight. Certainly Randy will not do that until
he gets another shot at Brock and I guarantee you that this re-match will take
place one day.
The Most Watched PPV
Fighter:
Is this great news or what? I mean knowing that UFC buyrates have raised this
year alone because of Brock is like beautiful music to my years. Hey Franky boy,
there is ONE of the many reasons why Brock Lesnar got to where he is right now!
Brock’s 2.2 million buys over three fights made him the most watched PPV fighter
this year! Dana White and the rest of the UFC suits must be swimming in money
because that’s just for one fighter in three fights total, imagine when it’s all
12 ppv events combined? It was said on the report posted by our reliable Suzi
that after this next PPV event UFC 92 is over, it is very possible that UFC will
surpass the WWE’s record for the single year PPV buy making UFC the undisputed
PPV king in 2008! May I remind you, this is mostly due to one man…the next big
thing or should I say THE MINNESSOTA WRECKING MACHINE…BROCK LESNAR!
