BROCK @ UFC 102

Brock sat in the growd at UFC 102 to support his buddy and training partner Chris Tuchscherer. Unfortunately Chris lost to Gonzaga via TKO in the first round, after taking a vicious lowblow from him. Hopefully Chris will get a 2nd chance.

LET THE DEBATE CONTINUE: BROCK VS FEDOR IN A YEAR?
Posted by Suzi, on 27 Aug 2009
Strikeforce president Scott Coker, who recently signed Fedor, commented on Fedor's long term future:
“Fedor wants to fight Brock [Lesnar],” Coker said, alluding to the superfight that failed on the negotiation tables earlier in the summer. “He’ll be fighting with us and M-1 for another year. Something could happen after that.” Coker did not elaborate on whether Strikeforce would try to entice Lesnar, who is currently fighting for the UFC, or if Fedor might try another attempt at negotiating with UFC president Dana White after his tenure with Strikeforce had ended.

HERRING ON BROCK
Posted by Suzi, on 25 Aug 2009
The following bits come from an interview with Heath Herring, former opponent of Brock in the brocktagon (that's what we call the octagon here at Ultimate Champion). Credit to mma.fanhouse.com:

Q: So no timetable in mind for a return?

Herring: No, not at all. And the other thing, too, is I know the Velasquez fight a lot of people were saying, 'Oh, it's a great fight.' You know, I've been fighting for 13 years. You see the fight with [Frank] Mir and [Brock] Lesnar and Lesnar just pretty much dominated Mir, knocked him out in the second round, and beat the hell out of [Randy] Couture in the second round. And it's like, Wow, I was the only one who was able to go the full time with that guy. It doesn't really benefit me to go backwards and fight new up-and-comer guys. It's not really what I'm there to do, or what I'm there for.

Q: How about the Shane Carwin vs. Brock Lesnar fight?

Herring: I think Lesnar's got him. If Shane can land a shot on him ... I think, obviously, Lesnar's chin is suspect. Carwin actually has a shot because of his size -- I've got to give him that much. He's a bigger guy. I think he'll give Lesnar a better fight than maybe some of his last few opponents.

JARDINE TALKS BROCK
Posted by Suzi, on 25 Aug 2009
From a recent interview with UFC fighter Keith Jardine (credit:mma.fanhouse.com):

Q: Speaking of which, I'm guessing you weren't a fan of Brock Lesnar's post-UFC 100 antics?

Keith: You know, Brock's a weird thing, man, because I've always met Brock in the background, and he's always been really humble and a really nice guy, but what he did in the cage is just disgusting. There's just no place for that in the UFC. We've come a long way, and the beautiful thing about the UFC is that you can hate somebody and go in there and fight each other for 15 minutes, and there's kind of like an old martial arts aspect in that just because the guy went in there and fought you, he earns a certain meter of respect with you. That's the beauty of our sport, and that's what a lot of people appreciate: the shaking hands at the end. Even though I still don't like you, I respect you a little bit for stepping into this cage. I thought what I saw with Lesnar's fight was disgusting, but the thing is, when you meet him in the background, he's nothing like that.

Q: So perhaps he just needs to do a better job of keeping his emotions in check?

Keith: Oh, absolutely. It's bad for the sport and It's bad for him. I mean, it's probably good for him -- being the goat brings him fans. But I don't like it at all.

Q: Do you really think that kind of attention is bad for the sport?

Keith: Yeah, because we've come a long ways. We're not just some biker you see in a bar fighting -- we're world professional athletes. There is that amount of respect and professionalism about it.
