BROCK INTERIEW

You can listen to yesterdays interview at the Jim Rome radio show at JimRome.com (for a fee). Here are some highlights of that interview:

About “Babyface Assassin” Josh Barnett (20-5) being tested positive for 2a-methyl-5a-androstan-3a-ol-17-one, an anabolic steroid:

“I don’t like to talk bad about anybody. I think it was a poor decision on Josh’s part,” the brash champion told Rome. “I think it’s probably a career-ending decision for him.”

“I was talking to the wife yesterday when I found out this information,” Lesnar said about yesterday’s shocking revelation. “I’m the guy that everybody’s been pointing the finger at, that’s been [considered ] the “Steroid Freak” and I find it ironic that I’ve been given this rap my whole career, and you find these [MMA] guys [that test positive].”

“You just can’t believe they stick their necks out and risk their careers for any of that,” Lesnar said. “I think it was a bad move on Josh’s part.”

In regards to the man Barnett abandoned in the main event of “Affliction: Trilogy” on August 1st, Lesnar stated that he would love to take on the world’s consensus top ranked heavyweight, at some point.

“Ultimately, someday, I hope,” Lesnar hesitantly said about the prospects of facing Fedor.

“I think I have a lot to prove as a fighter,” Lesnar said. “I want to get a few more fights in and do it right. I’m not here to hotshot anything as far as the fight business. This is a business for me, first and foremost. This is how I make my living and that’s how I look at it.

BJ PENN COMMENTS ON BROCK
Posted by Suzi, on 23 Jul 2009
This comes from a recent interview with BJ Penn when he was asked what he thinks about Brock's UFC 100 speech:

"Thats how fighting makes you feel..You go in there and you're so passionate.. It's the highest highs, and the lowest lows... There's nothing like the feeling of beating another man, and you're so passionate and you say things you wish you didn't say, and people hammer you for it, but as far as my personal feelings about Brock, you know I like him, I think he's great for our sport, and I think he's a great champ."

BROCK APOLOGIZES TO FANS
Posted by Suzi, on 20 Jul 2009
The following comes from the Alexandria Echo Press, a newspaper located in Brock's hometown:

Saturday night should have been a perfect night for Alexandria’s Brock Lesnar.

He solidified himself as the top heavyweight fighter in the UFC with a dominating performance over Frank Mir to become the undisputed champion. Instead of focusing on a one-sided fight, he has had to spend a lot of time apologizing for what happened after the match.

Lesnar let his emotions get the best of him after referee Herb Dean called the fight 1 minute and 48 seconds into the second round. Lesnar’s actions that followed included taunting a staggered Mir, insulting a sponsor of the event and flipping off the fans as they booed him.

“It was a huge win for me, an emotional win,” Lesnar said. “I got a little emotionally carried away and there’s no excuse for that. I’ve never had any unsportsmanlike conduct in my previous fights. Everyone makes mistakes, and I made a huge mistake.”

Lesnar placed an added emphasis on this match because of what happened in his first fight with Mir. Mir handed him his only loss as a UFC fighter in February of 2008. Revenge was admittedly a factor going into the match-up on Saturday night. That added to Lesnar’s excitement after such a dominating performance.

“There was a lot of stuff said pre-fight and I pretty much kept my mouth closed,” he said. “I like to do it with my actions rather than my words, and I just got caught up in the moment…this was the biggest win of my career. The fight went well, but I’m not proud of the after-match.”

Lesnar made it clear when he moved to Alexandria that he wanted to be involved in the community. He has done that in the form of working with some of the youth in the area. He was also featured as a speaker at Jefferson High School this past March where he spoke about making smart choices in everyday life, responsibility to yourself and others and setting goals. He admitted that he made a mistake on Saturday night that conflicted with the message he was trying to get across.

“I want to apologize to the young athletes out there,” Lesnar said. “I do a lot of stuff with the kids, and I have a lot of fans that are kids, and it was inappropriate. I’m not too proud of it.

“I think with me being a new member of the community, I want to [have a positive impact]. I don’t want this to tarnish that – speaking at the high school and everything else. We all make mistakes, and I’m a public figure and I should know better than that.”

NEXT FIGHT RUMORS
Posted by Suzi, on 20 Jul 2009
According to a couple of MMA pages there's a rumor that Brock will be defending the UFC Heavyweight Title on January 2nd 2010. However his opponent has not been named yet. The winner of the Valesquez vs Carwin fight is set to receive a chance at the title but it's not sure whether that person will be NEXT to fight Brock. There have also been rumors of the winner of Couture vs Nogueira to receive a title shot.
