Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer on Friday released the fighter purses for Saturday’s UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin main and co-main events.
Not at all surprising is that Brock Lesnar is already the big winner at the bank. He has been a tremendous draw since he joined the ranks of the UFC, and did the same for the WWE when he was a professional wrestler on that company’s pay-per-views.
Returning after a year of inactivity due to health issues, Lesnar will receive a flat fee of $400,000 for the title unification bout with Shane Carwin at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Carwin, as has been reported, will receive $40,000 for fighting, and another $40,000 if he wins. [credit: MMAweekly.com]
Brock's new boxing coach Peter Welch talked to the Boston Herald about training the DeathClutch team:
“It was an opportunity to clean up their technique,” said Welch. “That’s pretty much what I’m able to do is clean technique up, and I just enjoy being able to make a tweak here or there that will make a huge difference in their game. It’s what I’m really passionate about doing, helping the guys and get them on the right track with striking.”
“I was excited to be able to see that in the training room and now (tomorrow) to be able to see what we worked on, to see what types of changes he can apply to his game now. He’s an incredible athlete,” said Welch. “He sees things really quick and makes adjustments well. He sees things in almost slow motion, he’s constantly making adjustments. He’s analytical in his approach to fighting. That separates the sluggers (from) the guys who can bang and can think and make those adjustments and adapt to the situation."
“Brock is one of those guys who can truly adapt to a situation and apply the corrections to work in his favor.”
